Parent(s)/guardian(s) of members under 18 years old are required to join Detroit Kendo Parent Committee which involves some volunteering. Details will be communicated.

All members are strongly encouraged to volunteer at Kendo Tournaments and other events throughout the year.

Timing to wear Bogu / Kendo Armor: Each participant must ask a sensei who is 5-Dan and up for permission to wear Bogu. Timing for bogu varies with each student. For beginners it normally takes at least 3 months of 8 to 10 classes per month.

Promotion testing: Participants must obtain permission from a sensei who is 5-Dan and up if they would like to take a promotion exam.
